Beginner
This track is for those who have never dance collegiate shag, those that are looking to review fundamentals, and those that are wishing to learn the opposite role from the ground up. This level will give you a solid foundation dancing collegiate shag. Please note that there is a beginner class before the Friday night dance at 8 pm that participants in this track are encouraged to attend. Beginner-friendly shag music will follow the class to ease you into social dancing on Friday. Saturday will include a full day of fundamentals classes. Then, this track will mix with the intermediate class on Sunday to build on what they have learned on Saturday.
Intermediate
This track is for those that have taken several shag series or workshops and can comfortably dance an evening of collegiate shag. You should be comfortable social dancing at tempos ~190 bpm or above. This track is perfect for dancers looking to refine their existing repertoire, explore new variations, improve transitions and flow between moves, and deepen their understanding of partner connection and musicality. You should be comfortable with the Collegiate Shag basic, basic timing for turns, pumps, breaks, and side-by-side. Please note that this class will be mixed with the advanced class on Saturday and the beginner class on Sunday to give you a wide range of collegiate shag experiences and build the community. You are also welcome to join the beginner class on Friday night at 8pm before the dance if you would like to learn the opposite role, refine fundamentals, or support new dancers in the scene.
Advanced
This track is for students who dance Collegiate Shag regularly. You take group lessons, private lessons, and attend Collegiate Shag dedicated workshops. You are probably amongst the most experienced Collegiate Shag dancers in your scene. You should be comfortable social dancing at tempos ~215 bpm or above. This track is for you if you want to add your own styling to a mix of core move variations, timing changes, separations, and breaks. You wish to add more complicated footwork and eyecatching move variations to your repertoire or hone competition or performance skills. You may also be starting to teach in your home scene and interested in strengthening your teaching skills. Please note that this class will be together with the intermediate class on Saturday. However, on Sunday, the advanced track will have a seperate class that will focus on more complex content. You are also welcome to join the beginner class on Friday night at 8pm before the dance if you would like to learn the opposite role, refine fundamentals, or support new dancers in the scene.
